Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New research suggests Alpine resorts at risk from extreme flooding

Poster: A snowHead
Extreme flooding threatens the future of ski resorts in the Alps, according to scientists at Exeter University. New research suggests that there is an increased risk of flooding in the European Alpine regions due to climate change because they are warming up faster than lower-lying region.
...A spokesman for the university said: "Temperatures in the Alps have increased at double the global average temperature since the late 19th century and are predicted to rise by an average of 3-5C per decade in the next century."
It is unknown what causes such extreme variations in climate change at local levels, but the researchers predict that global warming will cause ongoing and accelerating ice loss in the European Alps over the next decades and centuries.
The study's findings will be published in Science for Environment Policy published by the European Commission's DG Environment.

What utter crap! That would equate to a temperature rise of at least +27c up to 45c!

Well France is no stranger to extreme flooding - 15 killed in the Var in the last 24 hours. http://www.france-info.com/france-regions-2010-06-16-nouveau-bilan-des-inondations-dans-le-var-quinze-morts-455287-9-13.html

pam w, it's only a couple of years since heavy flooding of the Guisane and Durance rivers too. Several people swept to their deaths, many evacuated.

Very, very localised. All really focused on one small town , Draguignan.

About 35 mile from me and although yesterday was wet & miserable for June here .. but nothing like the carnage over there and ostensibly the winds were from this direction.

If we're flooded I shall complain to the Mairie - we pay an anti-inondation tax of 6€ a year. Laughing

My property is 700m above sea level =Water flows down hill due to gravity rolling eyes Puzzled

If it dumped 3 metres a night for 3 months I'd maybe worry:

There again I'm a Snowhead snowHead and likely to be skiing so perhaps I would care. Cool

Jivebaby, water does indeed flow downhill but often fast enough and deep enough, to drown a lot of people on the way.

You read that about a lot of regions. There must be an approximately equal number of regions where temperatures have not increased at all. Strange that you never read about them.

This from The Register, earlier in the week, more suspect climate change shenanigans.
