Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

French Toll Road Doofer

I'm (hopefully) in the process of obtaining one of these doofers! But can you help me out?

I have been sent the form to complete and the woman is asking for a document containing the 'RIB' information. Is that the GB40ABBY*sort code*account* number? If so does it have to be an official paper from the english bank?

Ta!

Battlezone, a RIB is a "Releve d'Identite Bancaire" - which is a bank issued formlet (you usually get one or a few in your cheque book) or by post. I think it is just easier and more accurate to hand out - although thinking about the Telepass, as it's a direct debit equivalent, the RIB also attests that you at least had a real bank account at some point.

I think your "GB******" number is your BIC.

If you're working from a UK account, might be easier to call them and maybe use a credit card? I would presume that you can get around it as there's loads of Swiss with Telepasses and I imagine they've just had letters with the appropriate details from their banks.

A RIB (RELEVÉ D'IDENTITÉ BANCAIRE) is the piece of paper that the French recognise as being your bank details.

I don't think that there's a UK equivalent, the details on it also aren't readily available from UK banks either.

What it contains is;
> Branch Name and Address
> Account holders name and address
> Code établissement - Bank code (same as our sort code)
> Code guichet - never have understood what this is
> Numéro de compte - Account number
> Clé RIB - again another mystery to me
> IBAN Number
> SWIFT Number

I got mine from SANEF, did it all online using a creditcard, I don't think they accept UK bank accounts but might be wrong.

The first one that we had was linked to a UK credit card. When that failed to work in December we stopped at the first place with an office and had to get a new one (bet the OH still hasn't sent the first one back to get his deposit returned). With this new one it had to be linked to a French bank account and not a credit card - so it appears that all the different set-ups/networks run in different ways.

marcellus, The Code banque is the bank code ..., the code guichet .. the branch code (sort code) ..
Each is 5 characters ( I think) and together with the account number and 'FR' on the front make up the IBAN code that you use for foreign transfers.
At least that is how I understand them Embarassed
Battlezone, There is no equivalent afaik to the 'RIB' in the UK but the structure you have (GB etc...) looks like the IBAN code so may suit your purpose together with the BIC/Swift code

Battlezone, if I remember correctly, if you want to link the badge with a UK account, you have to use a debit card to do it, you couldn't use your bank account to set up a debit. (This was with SANEF and things may have changed). http://www.sanef.com/Offres-Liber-t/Formule-mensuelle for the monthly abonnement (only charged your monthly fee when you use it) . This asks for Code guichet and code banque also, although I am sure I signed up with a credit card originally.

Hells Bells, thanks, I have what I think are the correct links to forms to obtain a doofer though Sanef. Lady P works with a frenchman so I'll ask her to get him to help filling in the blanks!

Looking at the form and trying to decipher it, it seems to offer both a (french) bank account and credit (debit) card option. The email I received from Sanef did state that I could use a UK card. It also has the monthly or annual fee option.

I did plan on using our Santander account as we do not incur foreign transaction charges. So here's hoping.

If anyone elese would like me to give them the contact details PM me.

Watch this space.

under a new name, I think that's technically an IBAN...a BIC is similar but usually associated with a Bank rather than an individual.

ChrisWo, I think I'm right. The IBAN is a combination of your BIC and your account number, I think

No! no, I see what you mean. I still think that an IBAN is BIC followed by account number but that could easily be what's being described. We both win Cool

Looks like this badge is now only available if you have a French bank account. Shame - I was looking forward to flying past the queues this summer.

You're right - this site does. Managed to sign up by using 00000 as postcode. Will see how I get on this summer. Many thanks for the info.

dw832, He he, I got mine through Sanef, worked perfectly, but to remove any 'stress', first time you use it, go through a lane that allows doofers or cash, just in case.....

The credit card option has gone on the Sanef website as well, just French bank account details now ....how odd.

Offre réservée aux particuliers ayant un compte bancaire en France. Sad

Hopefully they will carry on charging it to my Nationwide Credit Card, I had a bill last month so they seem to be.....

Agenterre, Can you do the 20 kph ones at 20kph?
I have tried but at the last minute the gap is very narrow to get through Laughing

Boredsurfing, He He.. The 30KPH ones are fine at 30, but my (forgot KPH not MPH) attempt at a 20KPH one at 20MPH must have been quite amusing... barrier was left intact though.. just.

Boredsurfing, when you log into your account, you still have the option to change your card and account details I think. I just use my French account now anyway.
dw832, you've always had to make up a postcode on all of the sites I think, and add the real one on the address line.

Boredsurfing, I always end up standing on the stop pedal Embarassed - we don't have them down sarf so I only see them when I'm away from home -- there is one around Reims if I remember correctly. Very amusing for Brits I'm sure ... if they only realised the jockey in the French-registered car was a Brit Shocked

Agenterre, I noticed on our last trip that the non-stop booths are heading south. I'm sure I saw signs for them around Dijon, and there are some around Albertville.
