Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

TR North Face of La Noire - now with video..

After getting shut down by the weather (encore bravo, Meteo France (more to follow on this...)) on Friday, Saturday morning dawned reasonably clear, and saw Guy & myself champing at the bit down at the Midi station at 8a.m. for first lifts.
Sadly, due to 'snow-clearing' the first lift didn't head up until 9.30a.m.!, and with plenty of new snowfall over the last 3 days a 'short up' day was called for.

Donning skis partway down the arete we were pleasantly surprised to find a decent layer of fresh from the nights showers:

So it was fresh tracks down skiers right of the Rognon, until a hard right traverse set us up for the skin & bootpack to the top of La Noire north face (centre of picture):

Nice day for a wander:

At the top of the North Face, route-finding about to begin - roll-offs everywhere so a bit of prior scoping is a good thing... The Salle a Manger some 800m below:

The snow didn't quite live up to expectations, with a variable layer of powder on top of a variably breakable (or not) layer of crust over more softness...not unpleasant to ski, but concentration needed on every turn..:

Looking into the exit gully:

You don't want to head down the wrong bowl or you end up above this:

The Géant icefall looking spectacular as always:

Looking back at the face, a good descent though definitely a soft-touch for the 5.2 it gets in the Toponeige:

Video from the descent to follow shortly...

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I thought it was because we are so Gnarly that we found it a soft touch for 5.2??? Or at least make it sound harder than it was...? Smile
Great day out, all told - thanks Si Toofy Grin

offpisteskiing, nice again, beginning to think I should have put more effort into finding a cheap place to stay in Cham and stayed out another month or so.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

dreamguides, Well obviously the fact that we are both uber-gnarlers makes anything less than overhanging snow seem like a green run!! Very Happy (No tongue-in-cheek smiley available...)
Arno, always plenty of big projects but the weather is being a bit fickle at the moment... overseas plans shelved though for this spring...
