Hey,
Could anybody here recommend a good first aid course that based around being in the mountains/skiing?
I'm looking for something that would be useful in the backcountry etc, where outside help won't be readily available.
Preferrably based in the UK as I'm hoping to do it here before next season.

British Association of Ski Patrol (BASP) run loads of courses just for this purpose. Just follow the intructions on there web page. Very good courses based on practical training and if you book direct not to expensive. There courses are for anyone so you just have to sign up.

BASP are very good, but many of their clients/courses are office based 1st aiders (they've had to diversify a bit!) so make sure that you sign up for one that includes remote 1st aid.

Another vote for BASP - very good course indeed. I did the 2 day course last Summer at Tamworth having done my L1 BASI there

good thread, looked at the basp site and think i'll sign up for a first aid course, tempted by the ski patrol course as well, not sure if i'd ever use it but be very interesting.

No I don't think they are. BASP use The Snow centre at Hemel as one of their venues and while they do some of the training on the snow I don't think it involved any skiing. I'm signed up for the course at Hemel on the 10th of June.

the hemel one was at times on snow as well as outdoors. no ski stuff needed but bring a coat!

My son has just done 2 days with www.crtmedical.co.uk in Mid Wales. His report was that it was nearly all based outside, doing practical situations. They went to the trouble of making up the casualties with fake blood to make it feel more realistic. They also did some of the work in the dark, supposedly trying to find and take care of victims of a car crash.

as it's nearly lunchtime - BASP apparently utilise proper 'orrible "simulated" vomit for some scenarios
