Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mrs WS & I are thinking about going to Chamonix in early September for a week's walking. Does anyone have advice on accommodation? We're thinking about treating ourselves to a hotel for once.

3 or 4 star (could be our only holiday this year!), we prefer quiet and can amuse ourselves! We're driving so location is not too important. Thanks firebug, Eden looks good.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

My wife and I stayed in the hotel Grand Montets a couple of years ago in August and it was lovely.

Another vote for the Eden, I have stayed there quite a few times. Its a two star hotel with a four star restaurant. You should get a deal in September, check out chamonet for offers.

Les Aiglons has been totally refurbished is is very good and well located. Le Morgane is excellent too since the massive refurb but more pricey. Quite like the Alpina too. Superb views from restaurant at the top. Hotel des Grand Montets in Argentiere is excellent indeed but it closes at the end of August. See a few personally selected hotels on http://www.peakretreats.co.uk/summer/chamonix.htm

I was quite impressed by the Aiglons - nicely done out. you don't get the homely charm of a family-run place but it is pretty good value and the spa and pool were very pleasant. only downside is that it isn't really in the nicest part of Chamonix, but it's not too far to walk

The Hameau Albert Permier is very nice but you need deep pockets!

Don't know if this is still the case, but it used to be cheaper to stay in the more old-fashioned original building, which I preferred anyway, because the atmosphere was more like the ancient family-run hotel which it in fact is. Things like padding across the car park in one's dressing gown and slippers (to the fabulous pool) never made anyone turn a hair.
