Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Cham - will anywhere rent volkl aura/kiku?

Hi All,

Probably heading out to Chamonix next week, and my OH really wants to try out some Volkl Kiku/Aura or K2 equiv (forget their names). These are pretty hard to come by in France (strangely they seem to specialise in Dynastar and Rossi wink ), but I'm guesing they'll be available in Cham...anybody got any ideas where though?

We're thinking about being in Cham Sud so places near there a preference, but if the mountain will not come to us etc...

Cheers!

ChrisWo, good luck. I have no suggestions for Chamonix but there appear to be plenty of Volkls for hire round this bit of the French Alps.

ChrisWo, renting specific skis that aren't quite so mainstream, is, as you probably know, tricky. I haven't seen any floating around (I haven't seen any for sale but I don't know that I'd notice in the first place) - soooo... no real suggestions, sorry.

Ski Max maybe, otherwise Coquoz or Sanglard? I'll be interested to hear whether you find any.

Thought I'd report back on our ski-finding in Chamonix...

Unsurprisingly, we managed to find pairs of Kikus, Auras, Miss Behaveds and Salomon Shoguns in OH-friendly sizes. Though having said that, there didn't seem to be one place that had everything we wanted in stock. Ski Set (at Grands Montets) came good with some Auras (and Scott Crusades for another friend) and Coquoz had some Miss Behaveds. Snell Sports were probably the best stocked with their test centre having pairs of Kikus and Shoguns...one word of warning, though, their test skis are €35 a day (over €10 more than other hire shops!) Evil or Very Mad

And in case anyone's wondering what the verdict was, Shoguns and Auras were pretty much tied (Shoguns apparently win due to having better graphics and containing "basalt"...well, what can you do?). The Kikus were good in powder, but didn't quite have enough turnability for OH's taste (tbh, they were probably a bit long at 170, but I gave them a quick go as well and found them only "ok" in the slushy conditions).

And our other friend decided that Movement Yaka Jams were her ski of choice, having tried Scott Missions (too floppy) and Crusades (a bit lifeless on piste).
