Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

serre chevalier season 10/11 - help & advice needed!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All

My family and I are looking to do a whole season in serre chevalier next year (December 2010 - March/April 2011) - a couple with a 4 year old boy and an 18 month old boy. I am looking to try to start to get things organised from here on in and we have as I see it two major requirement which I was hoping some expert SC snowheads could help with -

accomadation - we need at least a 2 bed (maybe 21/2) apartment of a decent size and in a reasonable location (cost secondary to suitability - within raeson) - anyone know of such apartments or other acomadation that might be available for a whole season or failing that any good agents that handle season lets?

child care - we'll need some creche care for our boys since I will be working for some of the time (remotely for my busines in the UK) and my wife will need to get her skiing time in too! maybe a couple of days a week on average - anyone know of available childcare or nannies in the area - briancon, vill, chant or monetier all a possibility.

any other advice from people that have been lucky enought to do a season with a family?

All help, thoughts and encouragement generally very welcome! snowHead

I would second what Helen Beaumont, says about contacting Mel. She is very nice [and good to hear that she had the second one - was imminently due when we saw her last year!].

Enjoy. I am officially jealous.

lib-banana, sounds like a great plan. The kids are an ideal age for it. Could the 4 year old go into a local nursery ("maternelle")?

Can't help with Serre Chevalier or tips for small boys - but just to say that we did a 'family' season with a 10/11 year old last year and it was, without any reservations the best thing ever - the only downside was (and still is) coming back. I am sick with envy!!!! Hope you have a fantastic time.

Mel@EurekaSKI, Mel thanks very much for chasing me on this! as is the nature of these things I am afraid it has got rather complicated - we are now moving house so are less certain of our plans - although I am hopeful that we will still be able to do at least a short season - maybe a 6 weeks or a couple of months.

How is availability for apartments for that sort of duration - and what sort fo cost should I expect? The other main driver I mentioned is childcare - for a 4yo and a 18month - idealy for 2 or 3 days a week I guess - do you know about options on that front?

thanks in advance!

clarky999, be reasonable, they know bog all about either childcare or renting their own accommodation. They can tell you where the cheap beers are though, certainly. Laughing
