Can I suggest that instead of getting all worked up about this you get decent insurance and get on with life???

ishay, some insurance policies have clauses that do not pay out if the equipment was not securely locked in the first place and most don't cover equipment more than 3 years old. So figuring out ways of keeping your equipment locked is pretty essential reading for most of us.

My father-in-law (70 something) managed to "steal" someonelses skis in Westendorf last April up the mountain after lunch. They fitted beautifully apparently. He only realised at the next lift that his skiis were blue not orange and hadnt been hired in Munich. They went back up to the restaurant to find his skis still there, deposited the stolen skis approximately where he found them (though how the hell he had a clue where that was.....  ) and popped inside for another Kaiserbier!!!

As queen bodecia says, I have never seen a winter sports insurance policy that doesn't depreciate skis at 20% per year or more.
So I just have to accept that if my skis go walkabout, they aren't covered, even though they have only had 5 weeks skiing on them (plus a few sessions in fridges).
Which means I would very strongly prefer NOT to have them stolen. Although I usually only lock them where there is easy access to somebody without skis.

ishay, it would appear you've never had your skis stolen. Having skis nicked is a monumental pain in the backside and puts one hell of a dent in one's precious skiing time what with reporting the crime and going out and getting a replacement set, which probably won't be the same model as the ones that just got nicked. If you can put me in touch with this "decent" insurance company who will guarantee that I won't lose any skiing time, and will be able to replace like for like wherever in the world I am, I'd very much appreciate it.
