Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Resorts with cheap(er) lif passes

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi Snowheads,
Being on a limited budget I do find the cost of going skiing a struggle. Its not the flight/hotel that cost too much, but by the time we have added on ski/boot hire, lift pass and ski school for my daughter, the cost is becoming out of my price range.

So, can anyone recommend resorts where the lift passes, ski hire and ski school are cheaper than average?. I usually budget around £200 per person for a 6 day pass. I don't have any snobbery towards countries/areas so would welcome any suggestions that will help keep us skiing!
Thanks

Thanks altis, the last link was very interesting, and there is a pretty big difference between resorts. Shame Kapaonik is so far from the airport, and seved by so few flights, as friends visited and had good fun.

Can't help other than to say don't bother with the 3V. Just spent 998 Euro on four 6 day passes including Carre neige. I think in terms of £per hours skiing this may be second only to Xscape Madeye-Smiley

Helpful list here http://ski-concierge.com/blog/the-most-piste-for-your-pound-or-euro/ If you’re after a mix of a reasonably priced lift pass coupled with plenty of piste then Les Sybelles looks to be a pretty good option. Or try Puy St Vincent for a truly cheap lift pass if you're not that worried about miles and miles of piste, I've been and would recommend it highly.

wouldn't disagree but based on having been there twice rather than armchair research. Yes there are 200km+ of pistes but there are very few challenging runs (only 1 or 2 blacks and very few reds), lots of slow chairs and drags (as of my last visit in 2007) and the ski schools don't cater as much for English speaking visitors as the larger resorts. However if you are attracted you can save even more on your pass by staying at St Sorlin D'Arves and getting the local pass only, it covers a fair bit of Les Sybelles and all the best skiing, it's also by far the nicest village.

Another thing to be mindful of is child pass prices. Last year at half term I went to Zermatt (most expensive pass in Europe) with my 13 year old daughter but because her pass was half price there compared to full adult price in almost all French resorts it worked out quite reasonable.
