Looking for ideas on headgear (non helmet) which dont make me look like a crap English once ayear ski dad. Most things sit upright like a dunces hat. what does everyone els wear. Never really notice other peoples hats

I don't usually wear a hat but this year in La Thuile was cold enough to need one. Plain black and with a big daft pom pom on it. Probably looked ridiculously British but it kept me ears warm.

Simple, the more outrageous the hat, the better skiier you have to be. So you can leave in your powder trail (especially if you have got twin tips) the people who are laughing at you.

actually, what's wrong with looking english and middle aged? Better than being middle aged and trying to look like you're 22. then you just look like a dickhead.

I look grim in any hat, like the Queen in a headscarf at a very wet Badminton Horse Show, and gave up even trying to find one some years ago. Just wear a helmet now, come rain (like today!!!!!!!!!!!!) or shine (like yesterday).

I am English and middle aged. It doesn't matter if I wear a jesters hat, my big furry rabbit Cossack hat (my favourite), and Animal beanie or a helmet, I still look like a middle aged Englishman in a hat. So instead of fighting this I may start wearing my Panama, a bowler or perhaps a deerstalker.

EXactly. And one of the great consolations of being middle aged SHOULD be that you stop wasting so much energy wondering what everyone else thinks about your hat because you realise that nobody's gonna look at it. It can be liberating, not being 17!
