Just wondered if anyone had experience of complete beginners ski lessons at Tamworth? Not heard much about Tamworth snowdome really and just after some general feedback and advice.

Me and the kids all learnt at Tamworth late last year. I found the instructors really good and helpful and our first trip to the mountains was really good as a result, all of us parallel skiing the reds by the end of the week. tamworth might be the oldest of the fridges but it is still fine and doesnt seem to have the problem of overcrowding and long waits for the lifts folks sometimes mention for the newer slopes.
I did the learn in a day Late Oct/ early Nov ish and have been for a recreational sesion most weeks since. Think it would have been a waste of the time in the mountains to have to start from scatch, instead it was pretty much straight onto the blues abd concentrating on getting better.

One of the full time instructors there, Dave, is a really good instructor, I've been out to Italy working with him, and the kids in his group thought he was ace!

snowfiend, Its a nice day out in itself. worth doing a few recreational sessions after too. I like Tamworth its old and basic but I've had a lot of fun there and got some great value too.

Cheers for the advice - its for the misses, she hasn't skied before so thought it might be less intimidating learning a few basics there rather than on the mountain which i can imagine will be a daunting experience for her (i know she is a little nervous!).

snowfiend, It's still pretty daunting standing at the bottom of the Tamworth slope at the start of the first session! But by the time you've done the lessons (Learn in a day is great fun if your good lady is reasonably fit) she'll be happily skiing it and add a few recreational ski sessions after to practice and she'llbe a competent standard snowplough skier (so don't book absolute beginner lessons!) by the time you get to the mountains.

Cheers- we just can't decide between the learn in a day and the fast track two sessions... anyone any thoughts? She is reasonably fit- plays other sport to quite a high standard etc but just not sure which will give the better intro to skiing...

Learn in a day was plenty to have me snowploughing the main slope and be ready to go back and practice in the recreational sessions on my own. Guess a lot of it comes down to how you like learn stuff, I know for me one day and practice would be better than half one day half another and then practice and by halfway through the day I'd have been most put out to have to stop and wait a week to play some more on skis!

snowfiend, my OH started her skiing lessons at Tamworth. She had skied briefly on a school trip when she was 14 but that was, erm, a few years ago. She had a couple of private lessons to get her started. We've been lucky that we have some instructor friends. Now in her second season she's skiing pretty much anything pisted and getting into the off piste. She's probably no where near as fit as your OH. So it's possible to progress fast if she's keen.
As davkt, says, it's pretty much down to how she learns. If she's happy to take in a lot quickly then ski in a day. If she needs some reflection time then the fast track sessions may be better.

they employ a really fat bird as a teacher. really fat. not quite lisa riley but approaching it.

yes, she was defo there and a bit of a tank. She did a kids lesson. It would have been possibly fatal if she fell on a kid. Maybe she has left or been on a crash diet.

as an aside, where I am now there is a snow dome about 40km away in a place called Amneville. Its very very long compared to Tamworth and quite good fun if a little icy. I think it used to be the longest indoor place in the world until the place in Dubai opened.
