Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tignes - Off piste ski guiding

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm off to Tignes March 13-20th. I'm staying at Tignes Les Brev. I'm really looking to experience some of the off piste Tignes has to offer. I know there are a few companies that do off piste guiding. Can you guys recommend some good people to go with?

Cheers

John

Just to clarify I'm after places where I can join a group and not places that only deal with group bookings and idealy where I can book a day or morning or something?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Stewart is your man. If you look on the Tignes thread in the Resort reports on this forum, you will find him. He regularly posts his off piste trip details.

Sowler, I posted exactly this question in November/December for my trip to Tignes Val Claret in January. http://www.snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=58132

I was recommended an outfit called alpine experience in Val D'Isere (http://www.alpineexperience.com/) but they required me to taxi to Val d'Isere each morning for their early meet-up which would have cost 40 euros per day. They're unwillingness to be flexible (and perhaps rightly so) put me off going with them. Otherwise they looked like a good option.

I tried another recommendation of Snocool but they upset me by asking for my credit card details without guarantee of giving me a lesson (in case they couldn't find a large enough group to make it profitable for them - also understandable but I didn't want to give out my credit card details so it fell through).

I finally went with Evolution 2 with the guide Steven. I did the off-piste lessons they list. Steven was taking us to off-piste areas, looking for the untouched snow and giving us pointers if we had any trouble.

It was a fantastic experience. I've never done off-piste in France before (only Canada) so a lot more hiking than I was used to, skis on shoulder to look for the good snow. We had the perfect snow conditions and skied bowls including one we hiked up over the ridge with Aigulle Percee on it, skis on shoulder (nearly having a coronary in th process!) and canyons (Vallee Perdue and the stream track down to Le Fornet) which is very much my cup of tea (especially in the flat light). The highlight was definitely the trees down to La Daille in the fresh snow.

Not recommended for the unfit!

Evolution 2 did a great job of matching the skier abilities so the groups I went in were pitched just right. We arranged to meet in Tignes Le Lac in the morning (their office is next to the Palafour chairlift, but then the free bus was very regular so it wasn't any trouble really. They lent us probes and shovels in a backpack and gave us all transceivers if we didn't come with any equipment. The group size (although meant to be up to Cool was 2 one day and 5 on another day.

I hope you find a good guide. Smile

I have sent him an email but so far no reply. I shall try a PM.

Snowy, thanks for info.

I have emailed Evo2, Snocool and Apline Logic. I shall see what responses I get.
