Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What do people think of the village and quality of grooming on the skiwelt. I have to say the grooming from the top of the hartkaiser seemed s h i t e this year imho. Lots of lumps and poorly conditioned.

Isn't that a good thing?

bad for me as my right knee was playing up and I found the whole area worse than a giant mogul field. I think i realise I like groomed areas best. I think i even prefer ice and crust to lumps.

When I've been there before I've generally found everything pretty well groomed, but after fresh snowfall things will get mogulled - nothing you can do about it. Same on steep slopes.

I really like Ellmau, had a great time.

We went over New Year, when it was relatively mild, and there was only a thin base of snow, so it got cut up very easily. Lots of mounds of sugary snow across the whole area - worse at the bottom of Hohe Salve towards Soll (51 slope I think), it just made it all a lot harder work, but still far from bad.

IME of the Ski Welt, the grooming is good. First thing in the morning, all pistes seem perfectly groomed.

Later on is a different matter, particularly at busy times, but unless they are going to run the piste bashers during the day, there isn't much they can do about that. Although I have met piste bashers during the day a couple of times in the Ski Welt - including once on the run under the Hartkaiser funicular last year.

The village of Ellmau seemd quite pleasant, although I stayed a little outside the village towards Going last year, and this year only skied the Ski Welt on a couple of days while staying in Kirchdorf.

I would agree with alex_heney. I have always found the grooming in the Skiwelt acceptable - good, though obviously it isn't always perfect everywhere.
