Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chatel in summer - any views?

As above. I don't know Chatel, but we have the option of a lovely chalet for two summer weeks, and it's pretty tempting!

We aren't that bothered about the very active mountain activities, of which there seem to be plenty, but like lovely views, good road links for going out and about to other spots, nice village with shops, cafes, restaurants etc.

Anyone know the area please Puzzled

TIA

Anniepen, chatelin summer is fine, lots of good walks and mountain biking is a big ativity, if you know the area in winter you'll be suprised how busy it is in summer, the French are much nore into activity holidays than we are. It's not too far to Lake Geneva, Thonon and Evian in France, whilst going to Switzerland enables you to visit, Morgins, Champery and Martigny.

davidl, Thanks - sounds good. We do love the Alps in summer and have been to Les Gets and St Gervais in the past couple of years, having days out to Annecy, Thonon, Geneva, Chamonix etc., but had never considered Chatel before now. Thanks again Very Happy

I've been for mountain biking, they put a lot of effort into it there. There's a big bike area and zipline (weeee!) close by, and last year they had a really good deal on the liftpass for walkers, which made exploring the area really easy - go down to Les Lindarets and see the goats! The town was quite lively too. Would highly recommend!

Anniepen, Mmm. Can't advise on Chatel but - although the ski season is only half way through - this thread is already making me look forward to summer. Because of family commitments here it will be late summer this year - raspberries!!

Anniepen, well we were there for all of 5 mins a couple of summers ago Laughing Looked very nice Toofy Grin
We were on way home (!) from Les Gets and drove across via Col du Corbier planning on having time for a coffee in Chatel at least. The route took longer than expected (though beautiful) and we ran out of time so had to head back pdq!

Last summer we had an enjoyable day out driving down to Evian, ferry over to Lausanne where we visited the Olympic museum. Do bring your passports for the return journey though Toofy Grin

We've been skiing there for 20 years and have spent summers there for the last 9. Its a really delightful place - much more relaxed in summer than the winter. The mountains are not really so high so even if you are not too hardcore on the mountain walking you can drive quite high e.g. Col de Bassachaux (above the Pre La Joux ski area) or Sevan Devant (above La Chapelle) and access some of the peaks. They have various events (some a bit touristy) such as woodcutters competitions and of course La Belle Dimanche mid-August (a bit party up the mountain vaguely connected to cattle judging!). Thonon/Evian are around 45 mins to an hour away and Geneva 90 mins. Day trip to Aosta over the Grand St Bernard is do-able. As others have said mountain biking is quite big and some of the minor road cycle races pass through. Excuse the bias but I think its a great spot!
