Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Is the vamos one any good? Or would i be better off trying to get my hands on a copy of Les cles des 3 Vallees? Or for that matter is anyone able to suggest an other good off piste guidebook for the 3 Valleys?

frank4short, don't know about the 3 vallees one but if the Oisans one is anything to go by it's pretty good for an overview but probably won't have much of the more gnarly stuff in it e.g. stuff needing a rope for access (this is also true of the Cham one). Also in general it overstates the steepness of most (but not all) things by 5-10 degrees!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

That's kind of what i figured having seen a couple of their other guidebooks. Was looking for a third part opinion to confirm this though.

I have Les cles and think it is pretty good. Is more up to date in relation to lifts / pistes and has many more routes.

frank4short, the Vamos book is good for a general overview and has some good stuff in; Les cles is most excellent and far more in depth but also not cheap. With the Vamos, an IGN map and a bit of imagination you can certainly keep yourself busy for a week...

Have a look at this thread: http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=52372 It has several references to guides including Dennis Summerbell's guide to black, off-piste and difficult skiing in The Trois Vallées.
