Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Apex ski boots

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Has anyone had any experience of Apex ski boots. Trying to find a boot with a high enough instep that don't cripple my wife after 5 minutes. She's tried many boots, surefoot injected liners but the problem carried on. Cramping, numbness and pain only stopped by ripping the boots off (usually by the side of the piste. Was looking into Apex and also Strolz. Any ideas? We've had two terrible ski holidays cos of the boot problem. The other problem is we live in Jersey so getting to a good fitter is not that easy and I don't want to leave it until we are in resort. Please help.

Partner had the same problem with high instep, and found a Dalbello boot with an adjustable footbed height - did the trick on her boots, had problems with numb toes caused by pressure on instep. I think they are Axion, not sure which number but can find out. Got them from skiwear4less.co.uk at one of their roadshows, they were pretty cheap too, they do supply mail order but that could be a lottery.

mally, I don't suppose you have many boot fitters based in Jersey? I never used apex boots but have experienced similar boot pain in my 'limited' wink ski boot experience. IMHO, buying boots that aren't sized and fitted correctly is a false economy. Particularly when the the overall cost of a hol is taken into account. My issues reappeared following a boot change and only after skiing. On the two occassions I had issues were only resolved by a visit to a specialist boot fitter. May I suggest, not on of the major retail outlets (again from experience). It may not be cheap but it may get your wife some pain free skiing. Make a short holiday of it and, if coming to the UK, you could give them a run out at an indoor snow slope that may give you time to assess if any more 'fine tuning' is required. Good luck.

Monium, mally, may not be of any use, but we met the lady owner of skiwear4less last year, got talking to her (she was out walking her dog!). I'm sure she said her husband is a bootfitter and the shop is in Morzine, PDS. We did ask her for a card which we have put in a safe place rolling eyes If you are interested then let me know and I will do my best to find it or failing that, someone else might know the details......

If you can find it, that would be great, or if anybody else knows please get in touch.

We're in Morzine in April, and while we don't have any issues at the moment, knowing a decent local bootfitter always helps, especially when he's closely linked to a company we've spent a lot of money with in the last 12 months (including gf's boots) - plus somebody in the group is bound to need a tweak here or there, or to buy something or other.

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for replies, the good bootfitter and visit to UK/indoor slope sounds like a good start.

Cheers to all,

Mally
