Poster: A snowHead

We are going to Chamonix for 4 days end of next week and plan to ski 1/2 day the afternoon we arrive. What area would you suggest we use for the warm-up. All skiers/boarders are advanced but not looking for a too challanging first day, ie staying on the marked trails and maybe some steep groomers. Thanks.

Les Houches and Le Tour at the two extreme ends of the valley would be my suggestion. The former has 55km piste. Both are easy skiing areas of a reasonable size for at least a day. The black run in Les Houches down to the bottom station is quite manageable relative to those in Grands Montets and Brevent.

WSJ50, where are you staying? Will make a small difference on your 1/2 day.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

WSJ50, Brevent would probably be the best bet if you're staying in le vert as it's the closest of all the hills to where you're staying.

WSJ50, and, I guess you have a car? Second the Brevent - unless the weather is poor and you have a car. In which case, Les Houches. (It has more trees...)

Yes, agree with Brevent. It's mostly South facing so not the best for powder and you usually can't ski back down to the valley, but should suit for the first half day.
You don't need a car for the other areas, the buses are fine. (though a car is more convenientt if you have one).
You'll probably spend the most time at Argentierre but obviously you have to do one of the Vallee Blanche variants (with guide).

There is some intermediate terrain pretty much everywhere between Les Houches to Vallorcine - as long as you stay on marked slopes. Even in Argentiere there is plenty of intermediate terrain. The Reds tend to be more difficult than Reds in say la Plagne but none of the marked slopes are what I call challenging for advanced skiers.
