Poster: A snowHead

I am going to meiringne hasliburg over the 3rd and 4th of april which is easter weekend, the primary puropse of the trip is to meet with some swiss friends, hence the slightly out of the way resort. I then have 2 more days in switzerland to ski. I was going to go to engelberg to ski but have read it is very busy over easter with massive queues, does anyone know how true this is, I don't want to spend my final 2 days of the season queing. I heard an hour queing for 1 lift quoted somewhere. On the other hand I don't want to spend them skiing in slush, which is what i imagine meirigne to be like, 1200-2400m and south east facing. Which would you go for? I will be using trains which means that no other resorts are really an option. I prefer steep runs and easy access, relatively easy, off-piste. Never been to either before.
One more question, If I go to engelberg the youth hostel appears to be full and I can't be bothered paying full price for a hotel room for 1 night. How uncomfortable do you think camping for that one night be? I think it will be bearable but my brother isn't keen.
Thanks

I was in Engelberg at Easter two years ago and will probably be there again this Easter.
Hour long queues? I certainly didn't see any. A bit full getting up the mountain first thing in the morning, but more like 10 minutes. No queues all day once up the mountain.
Try the Hotel Bellevue. It's relatively cheap and of decent quality. I've heard the hostel is very nice as far as hostels go, but I haven't stayed there personally.
I also prefer steep runs and easy access off-piste. If we both end up there, we should meet up.

Hi
I'll be in Engelberg for Easter with my partner. We're keen to hire a guide for a day or two to try some of the easier off-piste routes.
PM me if you're interested in joining up.
(standards wise, we're at the "10-15 linked turns off piste in most conditions" level - a bit better if it's virgin powder on a reasonable slope, a bit worse if it's really cruddy/steep)
ta ta,
h.

Did you go?
was only really busy queue wise on Friday, with everyone (including us!) buying passes.... moral of that story is order in advance. took about 90mins to buy pass and get up to a skiable point.
Other days, were at lift station by 9am, and no more than 30 mins to the top.... and no serious queues once on mountain.
quite fun watching the day-trippers from India & Japan struggling with the mountain weather...

Yeah we went a few years ago over easter and the queue on the first day was massive then thinned out..and yes the indians in jeans cotton jackets and slipons shivering around right at the top, and slipping about trying to walk to the radio tower thing
