Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

loosening Bindings for storage

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

When I got my bindings set up to my boots at a shop, the tech said as the din is mid to high (6-7) to release the tension in the springs of the bindings after a holiday or when they're going to be sitting around for a while, a week or two. This stops the springs stretching and he said you won't know if they've broken.

Does anyone know if it matters what orientation the bindings should be in to unwind them ie, boots in, boots out, boots out but 'clipped in' position?

Also the position when I wind them up? Anyone know a test you can do to check they're set up right other than the twist the toe out with the front of the ski on its side and the pull the heel up whilst leaning on the poles without rupturing your achilles?!

Thanks

PJ

There is usually a dial on the bindings which will tell you waht DIN number they're set at. When you tighten them up again, make sure you get the right setting!

As to loosening them, boots out, not clipped - ie as normal - just turn the screw.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Atomic xto 12.

I've already loosened them but didn't really think to find out if there's a right or wrong way! Hopefully it doesn't matter too much as I can't remember which way I did it!

With regards to checking them, I know about the windows to set the DIN but I meant a physical check that they are actually near the ball park figure.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

You can do this over the summer. I've never bothered, never had any problems, the tech in the skis is supposed to be able to cope with it.
Most people don't keep skis long enough for this to be a problem nowadays.
