Yes mutt i think it would be a good idea to have seperate slopes ,as you say in larger resorts ,i am thinking perhaps home runs which get chocka at the end of the day , and perhaps narrow pistes where the 2 dont mix very well

I don't think that's really needed. However, I think it would be cool to have a resort designed for snowboarders: minimize flats and traverses, no rope/t-bar lifts, kickers built on pistes by the groomers before the runs open, chairlifts specially designed for boarders, to avoid boards hitting each other (from above, a 4 person lift would look like \/\/ instead of ____ ).

muttley, yeah, a really good idea. We'll divide the runs up using the method of choosing teams for playground footy matches - you know, each side picks one player alternately until you are left with the spotty uncoordinated kids that no-one likes. Bagsy we get the runs served by the fastest lifts.
Then, when we boarders are on holiday with our skiing friends, our holiday will be ruined because we will be unable to share any good times until we hit the apres ski.
No, it's a stupid idea.

Where would we put all the rubbish, inconsiderate skiers? You know the sort - the muppets on skis that allow people to ski way beyond their experience, in racing tuck positions with poles almost perpendicular to the slope. I'm a skier, and would far rather ski with a good boarder than a bunch of crap skiers.

I wouldn't be in favour of segregation: it means everyone having fewer places to slide.

I'm not in favour of segregation, but I would be in favour of say piste patrollers monitoring the behaviour of people (both skiers and boarders) especially on the runs home at the end of the day

Like tony, I have skier friends, and we like to do the SAME runs, together. Furthermore, it would mean less runs per resort for each person, which would obviously suck.
Also, I fail to see what your problem is with sharing runs with boarders. Overall, I find skiers to be more of an annoyance on the hill. Some boarders will sit in the middle of the hill, but this is quite rare. In contrast, ALOT of skiers will traverse back and forth across runs. When you have a few in a row doing this, it is extremely annoying, and very tough to get by. Boarders don't seem to traverse nearly as much.

I agree with ponder. I mainly ski (but board a bit, so I sympathise with other beginner boarders) but am generally more often hovering around trying to pass skiers safely, than boarders. We should all be able to ski all runs, whatever form of plank we're on - but am with D G Orf on the need for more supervision of all snow users, and tougher sanctions - take the ski passes off anyone using slopes dangerously and strongly discourage those tackling slopes well above their ability level.

I am a skier who boards (the reverse may be the future) and honestly can't see why snowfolk would want to segregate. That said I think that an area here or there in a large resort which is geared to a particular discipline is not at all a bad idea. Not for "us and them" reasons but because it seems to me that skiers and boarders get up to different things on their snowscape.
I must admit that it is really useful to be even slightly experienced in both disciplines. When, skiing it is now far easier for me to anticipate the next move of a boarder which really helps.
As a skier I find the most difficult move to predict from a boarder is the sudden stop and sit - probably the result of catching the wrong edge. As a boarder, I find it tiresome to work ones way through the traversing skiing masses of beginner/intermediates. But I guess once I become better at boarding this will no longer be a problem as it seldom is when I'm skiing.

Most daft idea ever! Skiers and boarders CAN co-exist!

I sometimes get frustrated with beginner/early intermediete skiiers which cause me to slow down but.....
1 - I accept that the mountain is for everyone.
2 - I don't cry about it on websites.
3 - I realise(where others it seems are having great difficulty) that segregation will not solve congestion, accidents or temper tantrums.
4 - I do live in the real world (or spend most of my time there at least.)

Want to make it clear that I have nothing against skiers. I've actually skied alot more than I've boarded, though I've now switched over, and I also have alot of skier friends. I think the whole skier vs boarder thing is funny but more than a little dumb. I just wanted to point out that while people generally complain that they are inconvenienced by newer boarders on the slopes, newer skiers are equally inconvenient. But of course everyone must start somewhere, and if you never try things out of your comfort range (i.e. slopes that are "too hard for you") you will not improve very much, if at all. With that being said, there are certainly skiers/boarders who take this too far, trying to takle slopes far above their skill level. This is where you see the extreme traversing by skiers, and extreme side-slipping/sitting down by boarders, both of which are quite annoying.
