Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Grubby jacket can I wash with oxy-action powder

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello snowHead

I read a thread about washing skiwear last year so I used soap flakes that I dissolved first then reproofed with an aerosol I bought at a ski shop. It didn't come up that well though, the jacket is an O'neill in a pale blue. the shell fabric is something called Oberstoff Tessuto, whatever that means Puzzled . The cuffs in particular still looked grubby to me. It is about 7 years old but otherwise still perfect.

Has anyone ever added Oxy-action powder to the wash. I am going to use a different proofer this year, you spray it on when its damp and then tumble dry on a cool setting to fix it. Its made for peter storm by grangers says its suitable for gortex and eVENT fabrics. I did a good job on my riding jackets.

Any advice welcome.

Thankyou.

I use Nikwax Tech Wash in the washing machine for mine. Rub some of the liquid into the stains before putting it in the wash.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I just wash my ski gear in the washing machine with Ariel same as I would with any item of clothing. I guess some people will throw their hands up in horror at this revelation but it's never been an issue for me.

Yep, Nikwash Techwash seems to do fine - it's expensive though. Whether you can use detergents depends on the fabric - I don't think it's good for goretex and similar. will get it clean, but will affect the breathability and maybe waterproofness too. having said that, I have yet to wear my two year old jacket out in the rain, so it wouldn't really matter if I had messed up the waterproofing.

It's best not to use a fast spin - can force open the stitching/sealing on the seams.

Well its all done and ready for March. Looks much better now.

Thanks, I'v used my grangers spray but when its gone I'll get some Nikwax, I bet its cheaper than a new jacket Laughing

Yep and I reduced the spin rate, the label said dont spin but then It would take ages to tumble on cool and the spray I used said use on washed garment before tumbling cool.

5 weeks to go what can I do to fill the time all I need is a bag to put my skis and the rest of my stuff in now.

youngeratheart, I've got five weeks to go too. I'll probably have packed, unpacked, repacked and made at least five packing lists in that time. Laughing
