Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A Bourg St Maurice-bound high speed train hit a car stuck on a level crossing north of Lyon yesterday (Pont-de-Veyle in the Ain department).
Fortunately both the car's occupants (who had got out from their vehicle) and the train passengers escaped without injury - the TGV train had just left the high speed track section to take the standard line for the final part of the journey. It eventually arrived about 3 hours late...

Seems to be a very common occurence. I was on the BSM TGV in around the same spot a few years ago when we hit a man on a mobylette, we arrived 6 hours late. The man had been sneaking across the track when he was hit. He didn't survive.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It's a common occurance for places with automatic and half-road barriers (or no barriers). Studies have shown that if the crosses closses more than 7 seconds before a train appears, many drivers will decide to cross. Of course, 7 seconds doesn't give people much time to clear if there are difficulties. So there's pressure on a the crossing times in both directions.
