Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Severe snow and avalanche problems across the globe

 Poster: A snowHead

Over the past few days, locations as far apart as Finland, Korea, Turkey and Georgia have been experiencing exceptional snowfalls and avalanche problems.

Finland's capital Helsinki has had sustained low temperatures and above-average snowfall, exhausting all the city's regular snow-dumping sites. Click Helsingin Sanomat.

Korea has seen the heaviest snow for 100 years. Click The Korea Herald.

Turkey has been swept by snow, floods and avalanches. Click Planet Ark.

And in the Caucasus mountains in Georgia, exceptional avalanche detonation work has taken place. Click Itar-Tass.

It all seems to confirm concerns about more extreme weather conditions from climate change. Or doesn't it?

It's another set of data points, no more, I'd say. Or is that merely stating the obvious?

Likewise the sun has been going through an unusual period of activity (much much higher than expected in the normal 11 year cycle) it is known that this will have an effect on th eearths weather what isn't known is what that effect will be which is why scientists are studying it at the moment

One of the safest responses from the pro-oil lobby is that there are so many factors at play, medium- and long-term trends/cycles, that it is impossible to directly link evidence of global warming (such as they've grudgingly admitted) to the burning of fossil fuels etc. So we'll probably only know for sure when it's too late Sad

Mind you that pro oil lobby is the same group that finace G Dubya Bush, the man who siglehandedly did the most to help global warming continue when he pulled out of the Kyoto agreement

There's the argument that if you don't know, do nothing. A lot of people seem to think that the "do nothing" scenario is carryu on as we are. Except to carry on as we are is to pump large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which is not doing nothing.
