Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I've joined the British Alpine Ski Team ...

... and today took part in the training for the Hahnenkamm race.

At least, I joined the ski team in using the same garage to service the car. Though probably the comparison between the Range Rover and the Peugeot I was driving is much like comparing our skiing styles.

And today I was in Kitzbühel for the race training - at least as a spectator. Here's a photo of Didier Cuche finishing - he was fastest today.

This is the first time I have seen the World Cup racers in action. The speed didn't seem as high as I had expected, though admittedly the finish isn't perhaps the fastest part of the course. Mind you, the racers were coming down in about 1 min 55 secs, where my time might be nearer half an hour, so maybe they do travel faster (though I usually have moguls to contend with)! And they did look impressive as they flew over the traverse.

Don't know why they are there, we don't have anyone in any of the races at all except maybe the Slalom on Sunday?
Perhaps they are just watching?

The team car wasn't in Kitzbühel. I too had suspected that they were in the area for the Kitzbühel week but the garage told me that they are regular customers and have a base nearby (maybe Saalbach?). I didn't meet any of the team.

The Range Rover is sponsored so I doubt they pay very much for it, maybe fuel at most.

I wondered about the Range Rover, could it be part of a sponsorship deal ? British ski team used to have to travel in whatever they could find, usually someones private car

AndrewBailey, papasmurf, Large Range Rovers may not be cheap, but they are still bound to be less than the cost of hiring suitable vehicles to get the skiers, coaches, technicians, and all the kit around between the various competitions.

Or even just around the area they are based in, for training etc.

International level competition skiers have a lot of gear.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

alex_heney, Never said they didn't need it... just that it isn't cheap (Sport HSE pictured @ £45K). Didn't know about the sponsorship deal so I hope they get them free given the running costs in fuel for ferrying all that kit that you mention.

Snow conditions are quite good. There was a sprinkling of fresh snow Thursday night which has helped a little. Weather yesterday and today perfect!
