Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Are your feet communicating with your brain when skiing? [new electronic product]

This year's ispo - the world's greatest sports fair (in Munich) where next year's ski products are launched - will award its innovation prize to a new electronic device which feeds back pressure from the feet to an audio message, to help you ski better. It's based on pressure-sensing insoles in ski boots, linked to a control worn inside the ski jacket, and a pair of headphones.

The product has been developed by a company called Moticon, in conjunction with the University of Munich Faculty of Sports Sciences.

Quote from ispo press release, by jury member Wolfgang Greiner:
Quote:
“This system has the potential to raise ski instruction to a new level. Together with the ski instructor this system provides an opportunity to optimize instruction, and it is very appropriate for our time, as technology such as MP3 players has become an established part of the winter sports scene.”

Any views on this?

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

This looks like a solution in search of a problem, any instructor can immediately see if a student is too far back, has too much weight on the inside ski etc. The only interesting part is the real time feedback.

IMO video is a much better and underutilised tool in ski instruction. This only tells you about the pressure distribution on both your feet and doesn't help anyone learn HOW to get the correct pressure to the skis (eg. counter, angulation of the body, different transitions etc.).

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

That occurred to me, too. Maybe ispo is having a quiet year. You do have to learn to feel your feet when skiing, and the body itself is wired to transmit from nerves to brain.

It looks like a solution for a DIFFERENT problem, for patients who had LOST that "body wiring" between the feet and brain.
