thanks for the link Bernard, but yes, i mean Chamonix. i'm trying to find a route that doesn't involve heading back to Geneva and have been unsuccessful thus far. anyone familiar with the area got any hints?

tinkerbell, if you want to avoid a Geneva connection see if you can get a convenient rail connection from Chamonix to the nearest rail station to Tignes - Bourg St Maurice. Once you're in Bourg there's a connecting transfer bus up to Tignes, which takes around 45 mintues.
