Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiing in Chamonix area

Planning on a short trip from the US in February. Arrive in Geneva in the morning and hope to get in 1/2 day, followed by 2 full days, and 1/2 day on the day we leave. Experienced skiers and 1 experienced snowboarder, will have a car to get around in so we can experience some different areas like going to Courmayer for a day. Any helpful suggestions on where to ski, stay(moderate), drink, or eat appreciated. Thanks.

A bit vague. If you're good Chamonix and Courmayeur obviously rule for the off-piste but you have to be prepared to invest in a guide to feel comfortable getting away from the lifts. Chamonet.com is a good place to start. If you like touring and are on a budget don't overlook les Contamines - a hidden gem.

Just got back from Chamonix on Monday. We stayed at Auberge La Bagna which is located in La Praz just north of Chamonix town centre. It was pretty good value for money 100 euros per room inlcuding breakfast and free use of the outdoor hot tub and sauna with views of Monc Blanc. Experienced skiers will want to go to Argentiere and ski Grand Montet which is absolutely epic and will likely have the best snow in the valley. In terms of where to eat or drink, there are loads of places in the town centre to choose from.

As 22 dropout says though, you can get into a lot of trouble if you don't know the area so a guide is definitely a good investment to get the most out the Grand Montet.

Try www.lesrhododendrons.com rooms start at about €50 (bit more for a triple) in Le Praz as well so bottom of the Flegere lift and short drive to Grand Montets.

welcome to snowheads, WSJ50. The first week of February would be the best - the rest of the month is French school holidays and will be very busy. Is the timing flexible at all?

WSJ50, another point, hire a car on the Swiss side of Geneva airport, rather than the French side. What time will you arrive, and on what day of the week? Other than Saturdays in February (when the traffic can be very heavy) it's a very easy drive to Chamonix. Because of the French holidays you might struggle to find a hotel (within the resort itself) which will do a few days - best book something without delay.
