Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Switching skis from alpine to touring bindings

Log in's not working hmmm...

Bit of a dumb question but I want to switch one of my existing pairs of skis to touring bindings and was wondering whether this is pretty straightforward or whether I'll need to get the skis redrilled, which I'd rather not do if poss.

Not a tech by any means so the whole drilling/mounting deal is a bit above me, but the current bindings I'm considering swapping are an LD12 on an 82mm waist and a VIST 816 on a 110mm, happy skiing powder on both so not fussed which I swap though. Any thoughts on what touring bindings would be best/least hassle? If I need to redrill is this a big problem?

Cheers in advance. Hope you're getting some wherever you are!

No problem redrilling etc so long as the hole positions don't clash which could mean a compromise in the binding position. Ideally you want 10mm between the holes & the old holes should be properly plugged & sealed.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Ditto the above. Don't worry about redrilling but I would suggest taking them somewhere experienced to ensure right compound is used and it's done right. My rule of thumb is to only redrill a set of skis once.
