Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Resorts for Christmas

Can anybody advise on suitable resorts during christmas with a snow. We are a group of people with varying abilities (low intermediates to experts) who all mainly ski on piste.

We are happy to consider most places but interested in Austria / Switzerland and France (although not 3V as we were there last year)

This question comes up from time to time, so you might find it useful to enter 'Christmas' into the search engine (top left of screen, drop-down menu under 'user facilities'.)

Snow at Christmas isn't guaranteed by any means. Resorts with glaciers or high-level skiing tend to be luckiest, though they can also be cold at Christmas, so it's not that straightforward. Low Austrian and French resorts have a significant risk of little snow on their low slopes at this time.

Looking at Switzerland and Austria, Saas Fee and Solden are just two resorts that offer the guarantee of glacier skiing, with general skiing that would appeal to your group if the lower slopes have good cover.

Zermatt (if you can afford it!) in Switz; Les2Alpes; Tignes in France, always have some skiing going on late-December. Also Hintertux in Austria. Obergurgl gets mediocre reviews for expert-level skiers otherwise that could be an option. Is the Stubai glacier open in December? If so, you could stay in Neustift or even Innsbruck and get the coach each day.
