Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Getting from Paris to Val D'Isere

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Guys, I am coming from Australia to Val D'Isere to ski Jan 2010 and I am trying to organise the best way to get there and back from Paris.

I have found the information difficult to piece together. I will be travelling with the wife in toe with ski's boots etc, plus a little bit a Paris shopping no doubt.

Can anyone assist. I have looked into Air France and found the following:
Domestic weight penalty - €80 return
Flight - €215
Bus transfer from Genève - €101
Total - €396

I need help with the trains, but so far:
Train - €215
Bus transfer from Bourg St Maurice - €???
Total - €315

I am not sure how to organise the transfer.

Can anyone suggest a better way? I am looking for the fastest and cheapest way. If I had to choose I would prefer comfort over, say €50.

Cheers,
Ned

Ned_357, Welcome to Snowheads, for train have a look at the man in seat sixtyone www.seat61.com, very informative rail site. specific Val D site www.unpluggedvaldisere.com, will give you the transfer information on private and buses, look at Lyon and Grenoble airports.

With most of the transfer companies you can book online

Train, the stop you need is Bourg its the end of the line, have you asked your hotel/ Chalet if they do transfers.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Easiest is probably TGV from Paris to Bourg St Maurice, then a cab or bus up the hill.

All train times here:

http://www.bahn.com/i/view/overseas/en/index.shtml

Seems to be 1 direct TGV per day on weekdays, 5 on Saturdays and 4 on Sundays - takes just under 5 hours. You can also change in Lyon or Chambery - the later adds very little to journey time.

For booking, this is easiest: http://www.tgv-europe.com/en

A quick search for some mid week dates in Jan suggests a pair of returns can be had for €240ish

Buses are about €15 each way per person. They take around 45 mins, leave from the train station at Bourg and drop you off at the bus station in Val, which is pretty much in the middle of the resort.
