Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hey, first post.

Just wondering if anyone has any idea what would be the best option (especially regarding price) for buying ski boots.

1) Buying from a fitter like Snow+Rock in London,

or

2) Buying from a ski shop in Resort (Les Gets, France).

Thanks for your help Very Happy

Do a search on the site (or via Google). Lots of good threads. CEM at Bicester gets lots of rave reviews. I think it is worth paying a bit extra extra for a really good fit which will last you years.

Smatths, given the current exchange rate situation, buying in the UK probably makes more sense and there seem to be a fair few specialist places dotted about. But it would help if you get a chance to try them out in the UK too in advance of your holiday, in case you need to return to see your bootfitter for adjustments.

Having been in a couple of shops in resort, the range seemed fairly narrow (note these aren't specialist boot fitters, just random ski shops in resort) and the prices seemed as high as S&R, Ellis Brigham etc "normal" price - worth hanging on for the sales, or trying a few options and doing some internet shopping if money is everything.

Exchange rate isn't helping right now, and there seemed to be a fair number of shops who have clearly not gone mental buying stock in anticipating a quiet season this year.

To be honest, in the absence of a sale at S&R, you might as well go to a proper boot fitter either in the UK or resort, as the prices are going to be near as damnit anyway, and you'll get some boots that fit, or at least a much better chance of it.

Smatths, in my experience, it's the luck of the draw as it depends solely (pardon the pun) on the quality of the individual who happens to serve you. Personally I'd rather buy in the UK from someone I can talk to properly, but you could get a very good pair doing either, or a fairly poor pair. The only way of taking this variable out of the equation is to go to a recommended named individual. I go to Colin/CEM at http://solutions4feet.co.uk/ and alongside many on this site can highly recommend him as having the right knowledge, skills and attitude. snowHead

I bought boots from S&R 7 years ago and have slied 11 weeks since then and have had them bashed by the local resort shop in almost every week, now they're actually becoming comfy. Buy where you like but dont be afraid of having them bashed as and when a hurty occurs at the local shop. Found a brillant shop in Bourg St Maurice when at Ste Foy last year - wish I'd found him in week 1!! Was the shoe fitter for the French cycling team and does snow boots in the winter - slippers now.....
