Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Club Holidays for Off Piste Skiers

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi there,

I am a member of SCGB and am somewhere between an intermediate to advanced off piste skier on their scale. I am considering going on one of their guided holidays in La Grave or Tignes this year with 'freshtracks'. Has anyone any feedback on these holidays? are they any good, skiing/guides, food, room sharing issues, hotels good, etc?

I will be travelling all alone (i.e without my mammy Smile ) so are these hols any craic? etc

Thanks for all replies,
horgand

Hi horgand, this section is in the archived bit of snowHeads - if you haven't already done so I'd suggest you repost your question in one of the other sections such as Resorts and Trips.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

horgand,

i've used their hols for a few yrs now and booked for Engelberg in 2 weeks. no problems. bit pricey, but guides are usually first class needing no worries about prepping, u just turn up & the guides mammy you all day.

I hail from emerald isle also & usually fly out direct from here. SCGB has adapted to budget airlines and thus offers fewer complete packages.

The progression weeks are usually good craic as the groups are large to accommodate the complete ski range ability and gives you a chance to get placed in their weird mountain grades with similar ability. The Val d isere progression i did twice . first time the leader was a complete muppet & incapable of grading groups correctly on first 2 days, but on whole is a good holiday. Pascal & Elisabeth & Patrick & helpers are good guides.

If you can do most off piste comfortably without falling every 20 feet, then the silver purple weeks would suit.

La grave gets gr8 press from those who've gone but once off the lift theres no second chance.......ie no return to pistes half way down etc

Enjoy the season
