Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Cairngorm Mountain to get £4 million makeover

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
The Cairngorm Mountain ski resort is to be rebranded and given a £4 million makeover. The plan then is to sell it in 3 years to a private operator. A controversial part of the makeover is a £19 million mountain railway. Also, visitors will have to pay to use the resort's carpark year-round....CairnGorm Mountain is currently owned by development agency Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). They took the resort into public ownership last year, when it ran into trouble, paying off the previous owners’ loans of more than £1 million for £2.

Paying to park, yet again in the UK we do our best to drive customers off. Puzzled
Skiing in California, I've driven to the slopes and parked for free, same in Europe.
Even summer hols in the Algarve, not a Pay & Display in sight.
These places value our custom and know we're there to spend our money, so they don't fleece us with parking charges

Arrggghhh, that's better, off me soap box !

Thats the point of the parking charges: upto half the cars parking in the carpark weren't spending any money at CML. Which means that in winter they were freeloading on the snow clearance provided by CML, were occupying parking that couldn't then be used by paying customers. On a busy weekend that could mean that the car park was full by early morning meaning paying customers had to be turned away.

My view is that acceptance of parking charges will be dependent on implementation. I would like to see free parking permits for season ticket holders, cheap season parking permits for walkers/climbers and refund of parking ticket when purchasing a funicular ticket or ski pass. Ie parking fee is then paid only by those not already paying.

the none paying parked cars, all mountain walkers and sight seers?

Yeah, parking refund for those who pay for and use the facilities would make sense, I know some places that do that, though not for skiing - leisure centres and shops in town centres.
In the grand scheme of things it's small change, but it still gets on on my nerves.

Sarge,

Probably, plus climbers. Climbers tend to get there early and leave late when the main facility open is the toilets. Also they are not allowed to use the train (for access) due to the stupid VMP.

As a season ticket holder I'll be annoyed if I have to pay the parking charge as I'm already stumping up a large sum of cash to CML which sits in their bank account for 6 months before the start of the season. However if what they want is to get some money out of those who are using the facilities*, but not paying then a system where those who are paying get the parking charge refunded (or a parking permit) could easily be set up.

* facilities such as the toilets, the carpark itself, and in winter snow clearing of the car park and access road.

Well, there's nothing for nothing. We don't get given a free car to reach the slopes. It does cost money to have a surfaced car park. They could load it onto the lift pass but that would not be well received.

Much will depend on the amount of the charge. £2 for the day-- no problem, surely. £5 --- getting grumpy. £10, won't go ! .

All written in theory, from the safety of England, where we pay £2 for a one hour hospital visit.
