Would agree, it looks to be in Italy, around Turin... the right distances from Cairo and Hannover, and around 600km from Paris.

The Abominable snowHead, I can't access the members' page. Thank you very much for negotiating copyright with the SCGB (IIRC, Tom will have handed over copyright when he posted the picture) so that we could all have a look at the picture. Kind of them not to bear a grudge after the hoo-ha in this forum when they used one of davidof's pics. Quite a signpost.

Tiger2, I don't think you quite appreciate yet the lengths some of these folks will go to to prove others wrong. There will be someone out there consulting Google Earth and ancient maps right now so that they can come up with a selection of right answers.
