Just back from 1 ski day in Val Thorens/3Vs after the 3 previous days at Espace Killy.
Espace K Thu 10th - Sat 12th: Snow generally excellent for the time of year. Very extensive cover higher up with
mainly packed powder. Some lower runs polished/worn but vastly improved with a few inches of snow on Sat 12th.
Seemed to be a lot of snow on the runs down to about 1500m (Les Brevieres) - though some will be man made.
Runs down to there were closed - presumably being saved for the Christmas hordes. Snow cannons working overtime everywhere.
Sat 12th: Light snow all day in Espace Killy. Drove to Val Thorens about 6pm. Snowed all the way, with a very light
covering in Bourg St Maurice and Moutiers. Road up to Val T was very snow covered above about 1800m (Les Menuires),
with the hire car's snow tyres working wonders.
Sun 13th: Amazing blue sky day with generally excellent conditions. Val T: Superb packed powder. Les Menuires: decent
enough overall, a lot of packed powder and some fresh tracks to be had piste-side on La Masse. St Martin de Belleville: Snowy
when we drove through in the dark but slopes closed on Sun 13th. Looking a bit sorry for itself (slopes very grassy) by home time
that night. Mottaret: Very icy/hard on lower slopes but excellent overall. Courchevel (1850): excellent (packed powder) to resort level.
One thing that did strike us was that despite the very cold temperatures (-11C Sun am in Val Thorens), in comparison to Espace Killy,
there was a distinct lack of snow cannon action in the 3Vs.

123_456, Good work!!
Keep up the great reports and pictures. Snow cover looks petty good up above 1800 metres or so.
Fingers crossed for a lots of snow to fill in the lower slopes.

I'm staying in Reberty this week and actually the snow is good considering. Best to keep high really. We were in Val Thorens today and the snow was fantastic. I'm posting a daily three valleys report in ski resorts and reviews.

Jonny luv plums, it's actually pretty good. No more beginners falling off the drag lift causing chaos and as you can basically pile in as fast as the thing goes it should mean shorter queues to get back up to town at the end of the day. There's a picture of the inside on my TR from Monday. |
and if you read your snow reports, there's pictures of both

Last night the temperature suddenly rose 6 degrees. In stead of -16 in a short period it became minus -10.
Early in the morning there was some sunshine. After 10 o'clock the clouds came down and it started snowing. Only light snowfall occured with a total layer for this day of 5 cm. The temperature at 2000 meter remained at -8 degrees.
The 2010 Coeur Blanc.
On Saturday 13th March 2010 teams will attempt a simple to explain, but exhausting to complete, marathon on skis.
Teams will need to complete a full journey on every lift within the valley during the course of a single day. This works out at a lift every 9 minutes! The lifts open at 8.30 am and will be closed by 5.30pm.

123_456, what a lovely little bird! The light looks very flat and the sky quite snow-laden, but there's no evidence of new snow on your travels. I keep hoping for pictures of snowstorms as my arrival date approaches. Still, three weeks is quite a long time at this time of year...

A cloudy day with a lot of wind. During the day the wind increased and also the temperature. At the end of the day the temperature at 2000 meter reached nearly zero degrees. This was the shortest day of the season. Although the real winter is started, from now on the days will be longer and the sun will come higher above the horizon every day.
The powdersnow of the last days lays now on places were you cannot ski. The rest of the week will be very unstable with some snow and lower temperatures.
