Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Here's something else to SKI* with next winter:

Ski goggles with head-up display (Ubergizmo)
Ditto - similar story (Dvice)

This product will bomb commercially (in my humble opinion) but it might be a hit with the Piste Police for pursuing speeding skiers and checking stolen ski serial numbers with the central database. I'm sure - with a bit of tweaking - it could also display your favourite ski forum pages, latest stock market prices, porn websites etc.

The Abominable snowHead, do they have Parking Sensors? Of course they'll catch on. I for one want some.

I think they sound cool and would actually want a pair, also $350 isn't so bad, provided the goggles are decent. I wouldn't get them because I don't have more money than sense and it would distract me to much, but hey, some people will buy them.

Excellent. I'll stop playing devil's advocate on this one - it looks like they could even out-sell helmets.

Yes they do ... but you're far too old to be skiing anywhere near the park. Stick to the freshly-groomed silver runs, old boy.

If they were wireless or had 3G connection, you could have your favorite websites and iPhone apps right there in front of your eyes while skiing. In fact, if the weather was bad you could just play video of a nice sunny run in fresh powder instead of coping with the miserable conditions you are actually in. Wirelessly link that to your sensor-activated SkiMojo and a whole new ski experience opens up. Also, there could be live feeds from the goggles outward-facing camera to snowHeadsTube (as opposed to snowHeadsstube which is an entirely different thing) and the apres-ski possibilities are almost endless. I want them now.

Will they be able to tell you whether it's snowing or not or will one still be required to look through the lens?

Even with the exchange rate at the moment, it's still cheaper to spend the night in the bar for the same effect.

Go for electric. Goggles are like trains, and steam is definitely a thing of the past.

skidmarks, you can get goggles with a built in fan, which keeps them clear. I guy I was skiing with last year had a pair, but I can't remember the make of them though.

I'd quite like a pair that could scan the ground in front of you and subtly enhance contrast in real time when the light is really flat (beyond anything that could be achieved with lenses). For that matter it would be pretty handy if they could recreate an image of the mountain entirely in the case of a complete white out, combined with the little GPS arrow to keep you on track down your chosen piste. Maybe that just takes away the challenge though!

these were around in the 80's about the time I think, that double lens's were coming in, I think it was Smith who did them Puzzled if someone still has a pair they must have been pretty good to last all this time Shocked

Hey - I do actually know the man who as patented a laser depth perception thinging for skiing in flat light/bad conditions. Guess you would look a bit silly skiing down the mountain with a set of laser lights protruding from your waist area! Not sure that'll take off either!

Transcend is the only pair of goggles in the world to provide real-time feedback to the user, including speed, latitude/longitude, altitude, vertical distance travelled, total distance travelled, chrono/stopwatch mode, a run-counter, temperature and time. It is also the only pair of goggles that boasts GPS capabilities, USB charging and data transfer, and post-processing software all with a user-friendly, futuristic interface.

Put me down for speed, altitude and temperature. Useful information to have at your finger tips. Maybe your current heading/compass bearing too.
The ability, as with a gps, to upload and overlay your days travel onto a map/google earth of the region is nice too, for touring/backcountry days especially.

What other info would be genuinely useful to have permanently in your vision? closest watering hole....

These are being launched on the 10.10.10 ... €399 for the cheapest pair (although cheaper if you can get them in Canada).

Nice toys... but I am not sure how much 'safety' they will bring to the piste... might take time to get used to them... hopefully before you have squished someone!

Goggles seem like an awesome way for Zeal to make $$$. Think about it, what is the most irresistible thing to rich ski tourists? Useless gimmicky poo-poo that looks cool and helps them talk big game at the bar, and costs more than any sane person would spend.

No doubt the software in the goggles would need periodical updates via a PC. Won't be long long before pop ups start appearing when your on the slopes!

I wouldn't mind trying these out though just to see how they perform.

That'd be a thumb FLIR camera side mounted to your goggle strap displaying overlay through video glasses. All off the shelf components for the ambitions fog/night afficiando.

flangesax,
Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive goggles is what I need Toofy Grin They have been specially designed to help people develop a relaxed attitude to danger. At the first hint of trouble, they turn totally black and thus prevent you from seeing anything that might alarm you.
