Poster: A snowHead

Been searching for about two weeks or more for a New Year deal, as this year we couldnt do a pre Xmas trip to Livigno this year, and the thought of not ski-ing till we go to Kappl next Feb, filled even this relative newb with dread.
So We got a reasonable deal to Alpes D Huez, and we will self cater there, and enjoy the snow which seems to be being dumped as we speak.
Going to try and keep costs down when we are there, by eating in quite a bit, as we are 2 adults and kids on a bit of a budget, so was wondering how cheap food was to buy to cook and eat ourselves in our apartment?
Also what is New Year like there? Are there celebrations and festivities or is ADH more of a boozy party town?
Cant wait though!!!

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Sollophonic, I found the supermarkets there (one at Le Bergers I used mainly) quite expensive. If you're driving yourself up I'd stop off on the way, there are several supermarkets. Far more choice too.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Unfortunately I am not driving. It was an option for a while, but the deal we got was actually cheaper to fly, by the time youd factored in an 1800 mile round trip, plus tunnel, plus stress plus falling asleep at the wheel!!!!
Ive got the trip with flights from my local airport, so driving there started to pale a bit. Plus we havent flown for years so our carbon footprint is fairly low at the moment. We usually drive to ski in France, as we do on many trips to France (being commited Franco-philes), .
Its cool, we'll manage, brie and baguette butties all week I suppose?!!!

Sollophonic, I don't know whether there are any better supermakets in the other parts of town, the two times I've been I've stayed in Les Bergers. Seemed to run out of stuff quickly too last time I was there, Easter 2008.
