Poster: A snowHead

I'm looking for a new pair of skis and I'm so confused with the vast range of skis that I wanted to ask some advice. I'm 11stone and 6ft, previously I have skied on Rossignol Scratch 174mm and Dynastar Big Trouble 186mm. I found the scratches fine for the park but were rubbish in the snow and the big troubles amazing in powder but a little big for the park. I guess I'd be looking for a ski around the 178-182mm mark with a 95mm width?
Ideally I'd like to find something in between that can handle the park and powder. I'd say that I ski 50% park (I hit rails and kickers), 25% on-piste and 25% off-piste/powder(when there is some...), thats about right I think as I would love to ski more pow but if there ain't none I won't be skiing it!
I've been researching:
- K2 Kung Fujas
- Line Blend
- Armada ARV (too short maybe?)
Anyone got any experience of these or recommend something else? Its annoying as I would love to test all these skis but where I can do that I have no idea...

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

You need to consider mounting point as well as size. I had Scratches too and the reason they were poor off piste is they were mounted so far forward rather the size. So dont write off a smaller ski if you mount it further back. Or get some Scitzo bindings so you can adjust your position.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Im not sure how friendly the scott punisher will be in the park, but they may be worth a try.

The kung fujas with the scitzo do sound a tempting compromise, but i'd be concerned about weight and reliablity of them as its only the 1st season.
Volkl Bridge and WDF the one worht a look withthe blend, more all mountain side of the mix though. If you're doing 50% park then I'd be tempted to go for something more parky like the Scott p3

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I mullered my edge the first time i took my punishers to the park..but that might be more 16stone of lack of skill on the rails.

Maybe look at Dynastar's new twintip range, the rather camply named 'Sixth Sense?' If you like the BT (great skis), maybe the step down the SS Distorter could be what you want?

I think snowrider's got it bang on. Which Rossignol Scratch did you have? I have the Scratch Bling, 88mm underfoot, mounted at the standard position (rearmost) and they are great on and off the piste. The Bling was designed for pipe, park and all-mountain but I don't really do the pipe and park stuff yet, just enjoy messing around on kickers.

I reccon the Line chronic Kyptonite (how ever u spell it) would be a good ski for this! 92 (or 93mm) underfoot, fairly stiff (good piste performance) loads of pop in the tail (helps in the park) and looks the dogs!
If your interested in anyskis we are going to run a promo (discount) for snowheads members PM me if interested and I can send you a code

92mm underfoot is the same as the Big Troubles, which he said were to big for the park (for him).

It feels more chuckable and nimble than the big trouble tho! Its still a ski that is primarily designed for the pipe/kickers (not really a jib ski) At the end of the day its personal preference on where you make the compromise! Personally love the pow so would never pick up anything too narrow!

Hey everyone,
thanks for all the great replies. i like the idea of the Scitzo bindings, can you adjust these on the slopes with a simple tool? are these good bindings or are you sacrificing adjustablility for performance?
snowrider - I had the scratches mounted half way between the normal and freestyle markers on the ski. They were the scratch fs (the old purle and blue ones).
clarky999 - the width (i think) wasn't really an issue, in fact i thought it was better being 92mm underfoot as felt alot more stable for landings, would i be right in saying this? The issue was more the length as for spins and rails they felt a bit more of a slog to shift them around.
dansmith - i was looking at the chronic cryptonite too, forgot to mention them!
hmm... even more to consider..... I'm definitely keen on the Marker Griffon Schizo so thats half the work done!

dont forget you can put a schizo on anything! the ski doesn't have to have the inserts
