Poster: A snowHead
|
I'm looking for some suggestions for new skis for my 11 year old son. He is 140cm and slim/light build, he's been sking from age 4 and makes anything you can throw at him on piste look effortless. He tried racing for a couple of years but has now defected to freestyle (He is still very much a beginner at this). He currently skis 129cm K2 Juvy (Actual length 126cm) which I feel are getting too small.
My question: What makes, models, lengths do you suggest I look at for his next pair.
I really dont know where to start, since despite sking for 30 years, freestyle is a bit of a mystery too me
Thanks
Mark

The new Juvy is pretty cool as it comes with a fully ajustable binding so no need to re-drill if the boot size changes! I'm putting together a discounted rate for snowheads members so PM me if you are interested!

ohh forgot to say lengths, because the effective edge length dont be scared to put them on something a little longer! (the ski will ski alot shorter than its listed length so u can get more growing room outta them) 139 will be perfectly acceptable for your son. K2 do a ski called the bad seed that is pretty cool if your looknig for an upgrade... How seriously is he hitting the freestyle? full on park rat iust likes the idea of a twin tip?

dansmith,
He has just started going to the Grom camps at the chill factor e, currently learning to jump and do rails but falls over a lot (he fell more in 2 hours than he has done in the last 5 years !). I have no idea how serious its going to get, hes had twin tips for the last 2 years (mainly to say 'i dont race anymore' rather than for use).I agree that the 139's should be about right.

Ahh is Pat Sharples still doing them?
Check out the fish and the juvy, good light weight (easy to throw around) and narrower side cuts so easier to use in domes etc!
