Hi all, wonder if anybody can help?.
Friends of ours are expecting a baby in Jan 10 which obviously prevents them going skiing this season. They are looking ahead to 2011 with regards to creche facilites in French resorts. The problem is (could be) that as they are considering driving over and self catering there may not be any creche facilites they could use. I understand some TO's can provide, but am not sure whether they accept "outsiders". Any French resort would probably do as they are competent skiiers so any info anybody might have would be appreciated.

Basil, I found that many creches had a min age...3 months if you were lucky but 6 months the norm (think I was looking mainly To povision). I just googled childcare when I was looking...there is non TO provision but it all sounded very French to me. Didn't want to leave my child in an alien environment with an alien language aswell. But it is out there and I am sure it is fine. Good luck with the search.

Well yes, it would be French if you were in France. But some French people are actually quite nice with babies. Not as nice as their grannies, though - and that's what most French families seem to do. They go in 3 generations and granny looks after the baby AND cooks the supper.

at home, that is what my kids Grandma and Grandad do, and they do the ironing and put up my shelves and clean out my cupboards whilst playing jigsaws with my kids and taking them to the duck pond on their bikes etc etc. Unfortunately for health reasons they will not commit to a mountain holiday.
I know how the "French" thing must come across but, having always dealt with ESF for ALL of our skiing learning needs (adult and junior) then I know that "English speaking" does not quite meet my expectations all the time. For a young child going to an unfamiliar environment ...the least I can do is offer them a familiar language.

Excellent creche in the middle of Samoens. Okay, then don't speak much English, but neither does a small baby  Our son stayed there very happily when 11 months, and again as 23 months.
Nearby Morillion also has a creche, and is at snow level, but it's actually more difficult to access unless you are actually staying at the top of the Morillion bubble.

Cos the language is going to make a difference to a 3 months old baby???
The lack of sound of a familiar voice will have more of an impact thant the actual language and if you're worried about that no childcare will be suitable..
