Poster: A snowHead

Hi,
What's a good resort in Austria for off-piste skiing through nicely spaced trees? In previous years I have been to St. Anton, Lech, Soelden, Obergurgl, Mayrhofen and Hintertux. Only in Mayrhofen did I find some decent tree skiing. Of course, I've been spoiled by multiple trips to Red Mountain in British Columbia, but there must be some good tree skiing somewhere in Austria. Any info would be much appreciated. Oh, I'm going in early February. Thanks.

PistephobicGerry,
Welcome to snowheads.
Sounds like you didn't ski Langen Forrest @ St Anton. Get a guide to show you next time http://www.pistetopowder.com/
Serfaus has a few areas where you can ski through the trees.
Here's a pic from my 2007 visit (although the trees are too tight in this pic other areas were ok)

We had great fun tree skiing off-psite in Zauchensee. It's up the hill from Radstadt in the Salzburger Sportwelt area. I don't really remember spending much time on-piste that day, and that's unusual for me!
I've only been there once though so can't really think if there is loads there or if I was just having fun in a smallish area.
A lot of the tree-lined pistes in Austria don't offer much actual tree-skiing it is either banned as per T Bar's post, or the forest is very dense so no skiing and really hardly any snow gets through the canopy.
We really enjoyed Zauchensee though, and I know that another called waynos does quite a bit of tree skiing in the area (I think also in Schladming which is just over in Styria), so it's a good place to head.

PistephobicGerry, Saalbach has to be a decent option? Think Zell am See too but have only experienced these places in summer but you certainly tell that there is a lot of it. Kitzbuhel is another one - sorry just read that you wanted off piste tree skiing

Saalbach is not a very good area for tree skiing. It is mainly open off piste... great fun though!
Zauchensee is a very good option there are lots of options and a nice red diamond to get you out of the area!
And it look slike Kersh has hit the nail on the head too!

Great video Kersh. Which hamlet did you base yourself in and did you use the ski buses to get around?

Treeskiing in Europe is mostly rubbish.
Stick to North America and Japan.
