Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Youth/Child Helmets - Austria

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello!

We are traveling from the States to Austria in January. Our 5 yr old will need a helmet and given luggage restrictions - we were considering buying one over there. We will be staying in Ischgl, however will be coming from the Linz area (visiting family first). Does anyone out there know of any decent fitters that in the region? I guess a better question would be, approximately how much does a youth helmet cost? Doesn't have to be top of the line.
Just trying to decide if it makes sense to bring one with, or get one over there.

Thanks in advance!

€30-50 Euro will get you a decent Denise or Giro one.

redhead0209, You will be able to hire one in resort. Makes no sense to buy something junior will only grow out of before next year, and the luggage restrictions would mean you are still having to take it back home with you

Supermarkets will probably be even cheaper than hiring. Perhaps €15-20.

Wow...Supermarkets sell them? Thanks everyone...think we will hold off! Check out the hire vs. purchase when we arrive.

redhead0209, check out the Intersport shops as they carry a large stock of helmets. There is an Intersport Eybl in the centre of Linz, just off the main shopping street, so it may be a good idea to take a look there before you go to Ischgl if you wish to buy instead of renting

Avoid buying in Ischgl it is a costly place
Mrs G lost a pair of goggles last year
Strange as it may sound a replacement pair were a lot cheaper on the Swiss side.
Great place to ski though
