Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Montecampione?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Further to my previous post regarding a 3 day trip end of December - I did manage to find some accommodation in Montecampione in Italy. Near Bergamo, activity breaks offer hotel, ski pass and hire for about £130 each. Do you think this would be a good idea? We are beginners, so don't need anything extensive. It says guaranteed snow on their website...
Thanks for your help.

Big enough for you, although there are far more blue than green runs, for a few days. It's quite low, 1250m - 1850m, could be quite a risk of poor snow, booking ahead for a trip that early in the season. I can't find any any historical snow records anywhere to help with this.

I know the resort and yes they have modern snow cannons in case of unusual weather. Last year end December had loads of snow but that's no guarantee. Activitybreaks.com price includes ski hire and ski pass, it seams very low ?

Yes, includes hire and pass. I also thought the price was low, and the hotel isn#t booked up. In a lot of other resorts everything is booked, so not sure if there is a catch?...

munchimo, just playing around with their website, I think you'd need to look quite carefully at the cost. You only get a pass for each full day (ie for a 2 night stay, one day's pass). So for three days skiing you'd need to stay 4 nights and 4 nights at that time of year costs £530 or so. You would have to add flights and transfers, and also note that the hotel is a half hour bus ride from the skiing. The bus is not free - it just says "small charge locally".

Maybe I've misread it - just had a very quick look - but it's not quite the super bargain it seems.

Don't believe anyone who says that snow is "guaranteed" at such a low resort. It would probably be fine but there simply aren't guarantees. If it's warm it doesn't matter how many snow cannons they have.

Hi Munch, have you seen the webcams at 1200m? nice healthy grass fields at the moment Smile

The webcame picture at 1800m seems to be an old one from April 2009.

I am thinking of booking the same trip in Jan 2010. Think the cheapest I could cost up was £300 for 4 nights including flight, hotel, car hire, ski hire, ski pass. Thats for a 1 bed apartment SC.

My initial doubts are that it might be that of overcrowding on the weekends as it's so close to Milan and also that most of the runs are in red which might not be great for us beginners.

Hi Guys,

The offer for Montecampione is cheap because it is less well known than major resorts so prices are lower. Also like you were saying on some packages you get ski pass and hire for each full day, but you can also pay a bit extra if you want more days ski pass and hire.
Also streaky to answer your question, it will be busier at the weekends but nowhere near like other major European resorts.

Hope that helps you guys
