Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alternatives to Obergurgl @ Xmas?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Last Christmas I managed to bag myself a rather lovely week skiing in Obergurgl.

I have to say, I really loved the place: great snow, great people and no lift-queues!! My idea of heaven.

I am very tempted to go back - but as there are so many other resorts out there, I'd really like to try somewhere new.

I guess the two main considerations are:
- good snow record (I know nothing is guaranteed as early as Xmas - but may as well give myself a fighting-chance).
- lift queues

Any thoughts ... or am I best to stick with the tried and tested?

Why not stick with Obergurgl, we go there every Christmas despite having season's passes for Verbier. It's snow sure, quiet and a lovely spot for Christmas, leaving the rest of the winter to rip it up in Switzerland.

If I wanted all the things you mention at Xmas, I'd be going to Obergurgl for sure.

I would second Obertauern
Been to both more than once (Obertauern most often and heading back 9th January)
Ski size and difficulty are similar though if you board there a few flatish bits in Obertauern you have to watch for
Not been to ether at Christmas to know what the queues are like but both ok at the times we have been

abj, I've stayed at Hotel Montana twice and was absolutely excellent - not cheap mind you. Sport Hotel Cresta is a cheaper alternative but still in an A1 location www.oberlech.com My favourite place in this planet, or St Anton - can never decide
