My son needs to find a cheap holiday for himself and about 5 friends, they are happy to do Hostel accom as long as they have hearty food, would like a largish ski area to suit Advanced and Intermediate boarders and skiers. Lively night life would be good but a couple of bars would suffice.
Any ideas where is the best place to look for ideas ?
Thanks.

UCPA is the french youth hostel system - got some buildings in good locations in resorts and do all in very competitive packages including food, pass and lessons. The lessons are for lots of levels including park sessions so not just bend ze knees
Independent hostel type places include: -
Chalet Chardons - Tignes
Pleisure Holidays - Peisey-Vallandry
Snowbunnys Hostel - Kitzbuhl
and no doubt many more - a google will gice you the links or just google hostel + resort x will give some more ideas.
alternative is to DIY done a couple of cheaper trips to fun resorts like St. anton going down the diy route, although it's probably less attractive these days because of the exchange rates. Even so renting an appartment or two through P&V in some big resort in france at non-peak times and self-driving can be still quite cost-effective.

This place in Morzine looks to be a cut price back to basics kind of offering http://www.tgski.co.uk/chalet-miramar.html . Know nothing about it but picked up on it in a recent press piece. Lots of Morzine based s about so you may get someone diving in who knows a bit more.

if you can cope with the rubbish website, check out Gites de France - there are loads of places which will do half board for less than your daily lift ticket

IncogSkiSno, another -rather late - endorsement of UCPA. The experience of my son in law (who's done three of their holidays) and my daughter, who's done one, were very positive Remarkable value and they don't seem to bump up the prices sky high at peak times.

Go to the UCPA in the Venosc area of Les Deux Alpes. Should get a room for 6. Full board. Ski/board and boot hire. Lift pass and lessons. All for the best side of 500 quid. Get a cheap flight into grenoble and transfer and should get everything for £600 or so

action-outdoors.co.uk have all-in visits to the UCPA centres, with cheap travel from the UK. Daughter and son in law had a disastrous coach trip out with them - driver did a runner at the tunnel terminal, coaches broke down etc. But that was probably just bad luck and it certainly makes for a very cheap holiday. Overnight coaches should be absolutely no trouble for youngsters - especially the ones who see themselves doing long distance travel in their gap years. An overnight coach to the Alps down French motorways is nothing compared to 40 hours on a Bolivian bus which breaks down every half hour and is full of chickens.
