Back on the SCGB site I am boring old J P Barcroft. When I came over here I became jonpim (not quite so boring). It seems many others have changed their names when they moved. This can cause some silly posts: I have just been urging Fruity (hi Helena) to talk to herself! On both sites she is posting about her trip this weekend to Paso Tonale. I thought these were different people and was doing a good turn in introducing them to each other. Is this split personality a good thing? Do we behave differently with a new name?

I used the same login for SCGB because someone had rudely already taken my real name!
I think aliases can be good, since you get an idea of the personality (except in my case, which). Eh, Fruity?

Didn't use to be me, but bam now. Never was on the SCGB board. Do use the same pseudonym elsewhere though.

I am guessing that Masopa is a combination of surname and first name like an abbreviated work logon type thing
But I could be totally boringly wrong -
I am me - used to lurk on SCGB but couldn't post as didn't own own PC but in 2004 I have become advanced !

No you are right. He revealed it in a different thread, somewhere. It's a name I find very familiar...are you ex-RAF masopa?

In reality I am 'u brain' although back in fantasy land some still call me 'Graham'.
On SCGB forum, I didn't know people generally used their 'real' names until I'd already registered as u brain - The irony was that by the time we came here enough people knew me as such that a change would have essentialy made me anonymous!
I am U and U is me!!

I am my name, I used my full name on the "other side" but prefer not to be revealing that now.
I own a nightclub in Walford and I'm in love with this gorgeous bloke called Dennis who is actually my brother, oh, that's not true - damn!

I am plain old Lucie Axford for 2 reasons
1) I was plain old Lucie Axford on the SCGB forum too, so kept the same log in
2) My alter ego "Ski Bunny" was nabbed by someone else on here. Others may still refer to me as SB (or variations such as Bunny Delight!)
Sometime I worry that I may be giving out too much personal information & I will end up with a axe wielding (possibly Masqued?) stalker. But hey, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it!!

LOL Alexandra!
I was Lollie on t'other side so kept it for here. When my little nephew started talking he pronounced my name as "eye-ee", and that developed into "lie-lee" then "lol-lee". A year later, he now calls me lollypop. All of which I prefer to my real name. Think I should've chosen his first attempt as my user name for a skiing forum though; "eye-eeeeee" is quite similar to the anguished cry emitted just before my derriere makes contact with the snow, yet again.

marc gledhill, I was too lazy type my full name in as my user ID and I can't edit it.
I used to post as all sorts of things on other boards, it confused me never mind everybody else. I can't see the need to use an alias, unless you're very young or very stupid and hang about in dating chatrooms.
A snowHead stalker, I'm trying to picture them - one piece dayglow suit, bobble hat, sharpened ski pole, dryslope friction burns - at least they'd be easy to spot

Helen LS, you are totally correct! What a good memory you have.
skanky, you're right, I have already said, but no - I'm not ex-RAF. Didn't even do CCF at school. The other place had another "me" (well someone else with the same name), together with a woman with the same name as my Mum! Very spooky...

No, it's an old ninckname from ten years ago in Reading (given to me by someone who didn't know me). There are people who know me as skanky by name, now...so it's not entirely just a pseudonym.

More people in the global ski community know me by this user name (or variations of it) than by my real name, so that's the way it stays.

I never visited the scgb site - found this one through a mention on another site. It never even occured to me to choose my real name as the logon. I've used this one on and off over the last few years on various boards, though ironically on one of the rugby boards I use a snow related name for a bit of variation...

Haven't been on ScrumV for a long time (probably 18 months or so) but I did use the name there for a while. Used it for a while on Gwlad as well before switching when the new board was introduced

In the out-there world, I'm Jon, which is close enough to my real name.
Here, I'm Austin7, because I have some, they're fun and I didn't think anyone else would be called that. I did think of being called Blizzard, after my skis, but thought I might get banned if we had a 'no advertising' rule !
In another place, though not the other place, I'm broken 1/2shaft, because I had one of those once, too.
marc - I'm neither especially young nor do I hang around in online dating chatrooms. I daresay there are some who would consider me stupid though.... so maybe you're nearly right
However - 'marc' is near enough an alias too - after all, it's not your full name, you can't be identified from it.....

I've been "ssh" in various electronic forums since 1983. They are simply my initials. But, "ssh" has become a bit of an electronic alter-ego after all these years of forum participation.
In real life, I'm also nearly 43 , married, with 3 great kids (two girls, 7 and 9, and a boy, 2). This is my 33rd ski season.

My full name is some hideous irish connoction developed by my parents to ensure I would forever be spelling both my names to people, " yes thats right S- I - N - E- A- D, yes it is unusual......yes It is Irish.....no you wouldnt think its pronounced like that"
Hence everyone calls me Nade(y) and the noodlee bit is due to my addiction to supernoodles

Supernoodles are ultimate student food- basically theyre like pot noodles but less messy and you need a plate! however theyre ssooooo easy to cook- add water, boil, serve
And when you come in at 5am and your tummy is full of Vodka and "sex at skegness" coctails- you need to eat these fast
