Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Les Houches/Servoz

Help please

Basic intermediate - have skied Les Arcs several times and enjoyed it a lot in the past few years and have been offered the opportunity of a visit to Les Houches/Servoz this winter.

But I'm finding it hard to find anyone who knows much about this resort?

All info gratefully received.

Many Thanks

timmythedog Les Houches is a great little resort with something for everyone. It has an excellent snow record and lots of tree lines runs. The lift system is very good and pretty modern with new lifts added every year. It is probably the easiest resort to drive to anywhere in Europe. Just 8 hrs motorway from calais and 1 hr motorway from Geneva. You literally take the exit off the motorway to Chamonix at les Houches and 200m off the slip road you are in the village. No wiggly mountain roads to go up at all.
It has a great freindly village centre although there is no mad nightlfe like larger resorts.
The British Ski Academy are based at Les Houches so you will see a number of very talented British U15 kids training and flying down the slopes.
It also hosts one of the best Men's World Cup Downhill & Slalom races on the Kandahar run, which is great to ski down anyway. It is not on the calendar for this season though.
It's both my kids favourite place to ski and they have skied a lot of places. You will enjoy it.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I spent several happy days mooching aroond Les Houches last season. It's very different from Les Arcs at only 50k (but if that's a problem you do have Chamonix just up the road (by bus and train although train is a bit of a hike from the village centre) one way and St Gervais down the road (or by tramway Mont Blanc) the other. Very pretty and friendly with lots of tree lined runs. The Kandahar is a relatively easy black - or it was in the conditions last year anyway. I particularly enjoyed the reds 'over the back' and there are some great mountain restaurants tucked away which are significantly cheaper than Les Houches neighbours. The village also has a very decent Super U supermarket, again not ridiculously priced. As Plugboy, says BSA use it, which can be fun to watch and I regulalry saw the Chamonix kids training there too. Didn't have one day where the queues were more than a couple of minutes including in half term week.

I liked it a lot.

Just make sure your accommodation is a bit of the way away from the motorway to avoid the noise and the fumes from the trucks running through the mont blanc tunnel.

It's odd how many people say that it's hard to find info about Les Houches. They must need to work on their SEO or something! Agree with the above and it has the best mountain restaurants in CHmonix. Les Vieilles Luges is my favourite but La Taniere's good too. Le delice is very good in the village. Gets some good powder in the trees too! Last year:
