Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Storm chasing?

I've only ever done this once, ie booked a flight 24 hours before heavy snow is forecast, and it worked out a treat, arrived in heavy snow, skiied in heavy snow the next day and finished up with a bluebird day, all pre-Xmas

Wondering if anyone else has done similiar and had good results??

Cheers,

greg

It is easier in a car...but timing is still key...

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Managed it occasionally in Scotland, have to book holidays at work far in advance so no chance for abroad. Do often make up my mind where to go according to snow conditions but not really storm chasing.

Have storm chased in BC - highly recommended as long as you don't mind driving Roger's Pass in the dark in a whiteout, not minding the fact that the plough in front is doing 20mph as when he turns in you're on your own Shocked

Sort of done it back in'92. Had a great week in St Anton, went home - saw the snow reports, booked flights and b&b, an was back a week after I left. We had a great dump - and when the lifts opened it was party time. Don't think I have ever done such a short-notice ski holiday since.

There have been times when I have looked outside, seen that it has snowed, had my breakfast early then made my way to the lift before it opened. Does that count as storm chasing?

Its a big reason why we wanted to ski out of our campervan - go where there's snow!

In the mid eighties I was living and working in Christchrch with Mt Hutt about 1 1/2 hours drive away. On more than 1 occasion I would wait for a storm to go through and on the first clear day get on the phone, then in my finest pathetic voice call in sick. My brother and I would then head up the hill, more like the- day-after-the-storm-chasing I guess. The flip side was I had to avoid goggle marks and had to turn up to work when I was genuinely ill - a small price.
