Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mottaret or Val Thorens for the season? Have to make a decision tomorrow!

So we're here in France until Wednesday, looking at a selection of ski apartments for the coming season.

Looks like two are on the short list. Both equally nice apartments. One in Mottaret, right by the lifts. The other in Val Thorens.

Which should we go for? Remember we're going to be here for five months.

Our major pluses and minuses are:

Mottaret:
+ Middle of the 3V - easy access to all three valleys
+ Easy access to Meribel nightlife (10 mins on the bus?)
+ Easy access to supermarkets / transport links (~20mins in the car to Moutiers)

Val Thorens
+ Higher up the mountain - better snow?
- Limited nightlife?
- Long travel time supermarkets / transport links (~1hr in the car to Moutiers)
- Barren landscape means skiing is more difficult in adverse weather conditions?

Those reasons would swing it for me, especially the first.

Mottaret
If I could base anywhere in 3V it would be there.
Further down Meribel Valley will loose snow earlier. But for rest of season trees will offer respite in flat light. You will be able to pop into Val T no problem. The top end of Mottaret probably has the best spring snow of all 3 valleys.
Access to Moutiers for shoping is major bonus.

Mottaret. It's a great long drag down into the valley from VT. Good connections from Mottaret, and some protection from weather.

RPF,

Yip,

Mont Vallon had some excellent snow at the end of April and it was deserted!!

Nothing that can't be appreciated from a Mottaret base.

I quite enjoyed Val Thoren at last year's EoSB. Except I wish it were at Mottaret.Wink

Well... We took your more-or-less unanimous advice and went for the apartment in Mottaret.
