Hi guys,
Im looking at going to these appartments next year, im told they have been done out really nice? anyone been to see first hand? also we have a what will be when we go an 18 month little lad...any good nurserys at Flaine?

leeboy, Have been there many times pre and post renovations 3-4 winters ago, a big improvement. Sorry can't help with nurserys.
Do a forum search on Le Foret there are a lot of posts.

leeboy, We went at Christmas last year. The P&V apts were the nicest P&V ones we have stayed in. Clean, modern, good cooking facilities, warm, cosy, and although were a trip down on the funicular to some of the main shops in the forum there was a Sherpa and decent butcher shop up the road. Efficient lifts up and down, and hire shops in easy walking distance, as were the lifts. They also have the BEST boot room ever - got heated boot warmers in the locker so no more cold wet feet the next day. Only down side is perhaps that to get to the forum did involve scrumming into the lift, but it was crimble and a bit busy.
Would happily go back to them again. Cannot comment on the nursery. Marcellus is in Les Carroz down the hill so he may know.

According to Erna Low site there is a kindergarten called 'P’tits Loups Kindergarten' in Flaine for babies & children 6 months to 3 years.
Don't know who you are booking with but don't forget to check the prices direct with P&V who own Residence de la Foret before negotiating with whoever, who should of course match

jollykay...thats the first bad thing ive heard about flaine, i have heard its not too pretty to look at, but the skiing makes up for it?
£100 is fine between 4 of us, £25 each isnt bad really if it takes away the "uglyness" of the resort  ....will check the prices direct with P&V too...thanks Lou

leeboy, Apart from the views the south facing appartments are much lighter, warmer and have balconies. We always self drive with Erna Low includes a Club class eurotunnel ticket or deduct £150. I have previously checked against P&V direct and there's hardly any difference. I think this years Stg brochure price is calculated at about 1.075 euros

leeboy, Dont be put off with anyone saying that any place is ugly or indeed beautiful! They are probably not very good skiers! As anyone that is fairly proficient would be away from the resort and in a different valley or indeed over a national border! Two beautiful areas are Zermatt and the Sella Ronda, those mountains seem to be omnipresent! Maybe when the poster gets off the bunny slopes he will not have to look at a concrete jungle!

I Actually think that in a weird, warped kind of way, Flaine is actually not that ugly. The secret behind the design is that when high up on the hill, the grey buildings blend with the rock face, making them not so imposing on the appearance of the bowl. It actually works as well. 
As an area, the Grand Massif is awesome. High, snow sure resort with all the niceties of tree lined runs down to Les Carroz and Morillon.

pam w, probably, the two mentioned areas are to do with the Mountains and not the towns. The mountains are the reason we go there not the urban areas. We can all see beautiful villages all over these isles, maybe we are lucky!
A poster had poo pood the resort of Flaine! He must have been looking at the town all day and not skiing the vast area that is there. If he was out skiing the domaine I doubt he would have seen the architecture of the town itself only at the end of the day! I was trying to suggest that you do not have to take the nursery slope run at the base of the resort!

Fair enough, but it's actually pretty difficult to ski in the Flaine bowl without going down to the bottom fairly often. I don't know that area well at all, but I must say I've found the pistes in the Flaine bowl a bit limited - just done a few single days there. The scenery within the bowl itself is nothing to shout about either (wonderful views from the top but you're not up there long!). And you are always looking down to those buildings, like it or not. I believe some of the lower areas around the area are more interesting and prettier. I once parked a lot further down the road (driving up from Cluses) but then it was a fairly major (and not very interesting) hike over to the Flaine bowl. I had to do it twice as I lost a glove and had to go back to the car for a spare pair.  I'd like to spend some time there with someone who really knows it well, as my brief excursions have always been on my own and feeling my way around a bit. I believe there is a well known gnarly bit (Gers?) which would be good for advanced skiers but apart from the fact that I don't do gnarly bits (or certainly not on my own) I think it's been closed the times I've been there.
I also found the mountain restaurants very expensive compared to our less well known area.
I didn't criticise Flaine before because I don't know it well enough to do so accurately - however, it would be absurd to suggest that there are any ski areas which don't have drawbacks.

pam w, agreed, it just gets on my goat that someone had a go at the resort based on the village. It isn't my particular bag but was a harsh comment to make when a had booked and was looking forward to their holiday! Rather boorish I would say!
